Java applets suck; 64 bit, hello Sun, wake up!
It seems that every time I change some hardware, I have to go through a whole dance to get Java-applets working¹.
Maybe it is okay that it is a little difficult on minority hardware such as the PowerPC - but on amd64 machines? Come on, it is almost impossible not to get that architecture when you buy a processor today!
Alas, troublesome it is. After mucking about with chroots and stuff, here the recipe I ended up using:
- Install Swiftweasel
- Install ia32-libs-gtk, so Swiftweasel will run
- Install JRE (32-bit) from Sun manually
- Symlink the java-plugin into Swiftweasels plugin directory
- Test that it works
- ...
- Go to the bank
Another. Day.
¹ I need it to access my bank, unfortunately.
